Next Step Heating and Cooling service van parked in a North Shore driveway

High-quality HVAC installations beyond the obvious choices.

Other Installations

Not every home needs a full electrification project, geothermal loop field, or small-duct retrofit. We also design, install, repair, and maintain the conventional and hydronic systems North Shore homes depend on every day.

What we do

Practical upgrades, careful replacements, and comfort systems that  deserve real engineering.

From conventional A/C to snowmelt, we offer a wide range of systems and services to meet your needs. The common thread is installation quality: careful planning, clean integration with existing equipment, and honest guidance about whether to repair, replace, or modernize.

COOLING

Central A/C

High-efficiency central air conditioning for homes with existing ductwork. We focus on right-sizing, refrigerant charge, condensing-unit placement, and commissioning so the equipment actually performs to its rating.

HYDRONIC HEAT

Boilers

Modern condensing boilers, emergency repair, preventative maintenance, and boiler replacement for homes with radiators, baseboard, or radiant floors. Classic North Shore comfort, upgraded with better controls and efficiency.

AIR QUALITY

Indoor Air Quality

Whole-home filtration, ventilation, humidity control, and UV purification integrated with the HVAC system. Especially important for tighter, weatherized homes where dust, pollen, VOCs, stale air, and humidity can build up indoors.

SILENT COMFORT

Radiant Heating

Hydronic radiant floor heating for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, additions, and whole-home systems. It warms surfaces directly, avoids forced-air drafts, and pairs well with high-efficiency boilers or geothermal systems.

GAS HEAT

Furnaces

High-efficiency gas furnace installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement planning for homeowners who are not ready to go electric yet. We service gas systems while giving you the full picture on future heat pump options.

EXTERIOR COMFORT

Snowmelt

Automatic hydronic snowmelt for driveways, walkways, steps, and patios. Sensors detect snow and moisture, the controller circulates warm water, and the surface clears itself without constant shoveling or salting.

How we decide

The right installation depends on the house you already have.

Older North Shore homes are rarely one-size-fits-all. A bungalow with decent ductwork, a lakefront home with cast-iron radiators, and a renovation adding heated tile floors all need different answers. We start with the existing system and the homeowner's goals, then recommend the least disruptive path that still solves the problem.

Keep and improve what works.

Modernize when it makes sense.

If your ducts, boiler piping, radiators, or furnace are fundamentally sound, replacement is not automatically the smartest move. Often the better answer is a high-quality repair, better controls, IAQ upgrades, or a properly sized equipment replacement that uses the infrastructure already in place.

When equipment is aging, efficiency has dropped, repairs are stacking up, or comfort is still poor after maintenance, we talk through replacement options clearly. That might mean a high-efficiency central A/C, a condensing boiler, a modulating furnace, radiant heat, snowmelt, or a future path toward heat pumps or geothermal.

  • Repair and maintenance before premature replacement
  • Manual J sizing instead of rule-of-thumb equipment swaps
  • Commissioning and airflow checks after installation
  • Honest repair-versus-replace guidance
  • Hydronic and forced-air experience under one roof
  • Electrification-aware recommendations without the hard sell

Bottom line: We design and install high-quality systems that keep your home dry, warm, cool, quiet, healthy, and safe.

Common project paths

Start with the symptom. We will narrow the system.

The house cools, but feels humid.

The heat works, but comfort is uneven.

The air feels stale or dusty.

That often points to an oversized or poorly commissioned A/C system, weak airflow, leaky ducts, or missing dehumidification strategy. We evaluate the whole cooling path before recommending equipment.

Uneven temperatures can come from duct problems, boiler zone issues, radiator imbalance, poor controls, or building-envelope conditions. The fix may be balancing, controls, repair, replacement, or radiant heat in the right space.

Tighter homes need intentional filtration and ventilation. A media filter, UV treatment, humidifier, dehumidifier, ERV, or HRV can make the house healthier without replacing the primary HVAC system.

The boiler is old but the radiators are beloved.

The renovation needs invisible heat.

The driveway or walk is a winter hazard.

That is exactly where hydronic experience matters. We can repair, replace with a condensing boiler, improve zoning, or discuss geothermal options that preserve the comfort of hydronic distribution.

Radiant floors are ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and additions where silent, even, invisible warmth changes how the space feels every day.

Hydronic snowmelt integrates with boiler systems or new heat-source planning to keep surfaces clear automatically when snow and ice arrive.
