Extending ductwork into a new addition is often more expensive and disruptive than installing a mini-split. A single-zone system conditions the new space cleanly, independently, and without touching your existing system.
Basements are notoriously under-served by central systems — too cold in winter, too humid in summer. A mini-split handles both heating and cooling, with dehumidification built in.
Attic conversions gain heat in summer and lose it in winter — their location at the top of the thermal stack makes them hard to condition with central forced air. A mini-split solves this precisely.
